Animal Services Experiences Fire Incident

ELKTON, MD. — Cecil County Animal Services (CCAS), located on Augustine Herman Highway in Chesapeake City, Maryland, experienced a small fire and smoke related incident this morning at the shelter at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Chesapeake City Fire Company and Cecil County and Queen Anne’s County Emergency Services departments are currently on scene. The fire has been contained to an electrical box outside of the shelter. CCAS staff and animals have been removed from the building. There are no injuries to report at this time.

The exact cause of the incident is under investigation more details will follow.

The shelter, which opened in July 2016, serves as the County’s Animal Control Authority and provides quality care to animals in the community through the management of an open-admission shelter.
