May 24th, 2024

North East, MD

With the final votes counted, the Cecil County Board of Elections has designated Adam Streight the winner in his bid to be the Republican nominee for County Executive. Mr. Streight received 7,445 votes, exceeding his opponent, County Executive Danielle Hornberger by 907 votes.

In her first run for a county political office, former school board president Dawn Branch defeated current County Council President Jacki Gregory for the District 5 County Council seat with 6,750 votes, a 162 vote margin. The margin is small enough that Ms. Gregory is entitled to a recount.

Streight, who is a Sergeant with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, ran on a platform of family values, public safety and school funding. His campaign was bolstered by the grass roots Fund CCPS movement which assembled a coalition of Democrats and Republicans, students and other activists who sought increased funding for public education in Cecil County.

Adam Streight will face Democratic nominee William Kilby in the November general election. Dawn Branch will face Russ Melrath.
