Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger Introduces Plan to Accelerate Completion of New North East Middle and High School Complex
Elkton, Maryland — Today, County Executive Danielle Hornberger unveiled a comprehensive plan to accelerate the completion of the new North East Middle and High School complex, aiming to finish building construction within the next three years. The County Executive presented a bill and companion resolution to the County Council that, together, would facilitate the completion of this project ahead of schedule.
“This plan is a win-win,” said County Executive Danielle Hornberger. “It will not only save Cecil taxpayers an estimated $8–10 million, but also more quickly open the doors to this new state-of-the-art learning environment, where students are excited to learn and teachers are excited to teach.”
“This is great news for CCPS students, teachers, and families,” stated Dr. Jeffrey A. Lawson, superintendent of Cecil County Public Schools. “We look forward to these new schools becoming the centerpiece of the North East community for generations to come.”
“I am pleased that our responsible stewardship of County taxpayer dollars has put us in a position to complete this project ahead of schedule,” said Council President Jackie Gregory. “Building both of these schools at the same time, rather than one after the other, means that students and teachers will enjoy a safe and seamless transition into their new educational environment without the noise, traffic, and other disruptions of ongoing construction,” she added.
