The newly built Chesapeake city Elementary School and the efforts of the people who made it happen were celebrated on Monday at a well attended ribbon cutting ceremony. Speakers included County Executive Danielle Hornberger, School Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Lawson and School Board president William Malesh.
The speakers highlighted the cooperative spirit that guided this project as well as its completion ahead of schedule and under budget. Sixty per cent of the $22 million dollar construction cost for the new school were provided by the state.
Following the ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to tour the county’s newest school. Though there are fond memories of the eighty year old building it replaces, the gleaming, high tech facility promises to be a safer, more efficient and exciting environment for learning.
